This state park provides both beauty and variety – one of the reasons why it’s one of my favorite family photoshoot locations in Wilmington Delaware! My favorite spots for family sessions shift and change throughout the four seasons.

The loop around the pond is beautiful when the fields and trees are lush and green in summer through fall. 

Then the entire state park is gorgeous when fall colors strike in Autumn. I love catching those colors along the tree and fence lined entrance into the park. During golden hour, the sun dips behind the trees there creating a beautiful soft glow. 

In the winter there are two patches of evergreen trees in the park that provide the perfect holiday vibes. I’m looking forward to Santa Sessions taking place song these evergreens later this year!

Beautiful pink and white trees bloom around the mansion at Bellevue Hall in the Spring. They popped right before Easter Minis this year, which made the perfect Spring backdrop. 

Considering Bellevue State Park as a location for your upcoming family photos? Let’s break down the pros and the cons: 

PROS: 

-Extremely versatile, with different areas that shine throughout each season. 

-There is ample parking available in the main lot. Depending on your specific picture spot, there may be a short walk from the lot. However, all walks are stroller accessible. 

-There is plenty of room for little ones to roam and explore!

-There are multiple playgrounds! This is a great asset for families who want to burn some energy after their session. (BONUS – the playgrounds also work great for bribes… “first pictures… then playground”)

CONS: 

-With this location being a state park, there is an entrance fee that runs from March 1st – November 30th. Typically fees are $4 for instate vehicles and $8 for out of state vehicles. However, be sure to check Delaware State Park website for most update-to-date park information.

-The pond does attract a lot of critters, so consider bringing bug spray for sessions during spring and summer!

-While there are many beautiful spots in the park, I prioritize the ones that have the best lighting for flattering photos. For example, the area near the pond is beautiful in Summer and Fall. However, it makes a busy and overly bright background during early spring. We’ll work together to pick a spot that is ideal for beautiful photos.
